Singapore-China Sea Freight: LCL, FCL & Groupage Compared

For sea freight to Singapore or from Singapore back to China, Seapoe offers three different types of service by shipping method: full container load FCL, less than container load LCL, and Groupage (Seapoe's specialty service).

Sea freight to Singapore: LCL, FCL and groupage

Usually, customers don't need to worry about how to choose — Seapoe's experienced consultant team will recommend different shipping solutions based on the customer's situation and provide full door-to-door concierge service throughout.

Full Container Load (FCL) Sea Freight
If you have a large amount of furniture or bulky luggage to ship to Singapore or back to China, and the volume reaches about 15-20 cubic meters or more, you can consider booking a 20-foot container for sea freight (due to the irregular shapes of furniture and luggage, a 20-foot container can typically hold at most 25-26 cubic meters of furniture-type items).

FCL shipping doesn't necessarily mean the entire container must be completely full — it means the container belongs to you alone, achieving the highest level of security and privacy protection. Common container types include 20-foot, 40-foot, and 40-foot high-cube containers.

Less than Container Load (LCL) Sea Freight
If your items are under 15 cubic meters, you can consider LCL shipping: when booking space, you directly use the LCL consolidation format, letting the shipping line allocate your cargo into a container shared by different shippers.

Groupage (Consolidated Shipping)
Groupage can be considered a type of LCL, but the key difference is that all cargo in a groupage container belongs to Seapoe's customers. Thanks to Seapoe's large customer base for Singapore sea freight, multiple containers depart weekly between China and Singapore.

Seapoe's groupage advantages: on one hand, it reduces costs and saves customers on shipping fees; on the other hand, the entire container's cargo is coordinated by Seapoe, maximizing the security of customers' belongings.

Please note that because items are consolidated with other Seapoe customers for LCL sea freight back from Singapore, you need to wait for customer service to arrange the schedule and consolidate the shipment based on mutual communication — the timeline is less predictable compared to the other two shipping methods.
